SECTION 01 8119 INDOOR AIR QUALITY REQUIREMENTS FOR LEED BUILDINGS
REFER TO THE ADDENDUM FOR APPLICABILITY OF THIS SECTION 01 81 19
PART I - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS:
A The following documents apply to all required work for the Project: (1) the Contract Drawings, (2) the Specifications, (3) the General Conditions, (4) the Addendum, and (5) the Contract [City of New York Standard Construction Contract].
1.2 CONSTRUCTION IAQ MANAGEMENT GOALS FOR THE PROJECT:
A The City of New York has determined that this Project shall minimize the detrimental impacts on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) resulting from construction activities. Factors that contaminate indoor air, such as dust entering HVAC systems and ductwork, improper storage of materials on-site, poor housekeeping, shall be minimized.
1.3 RELATED SECTIONS: A
All sections of the Specifications related to interior construction, MEP systems, and items affecting indoor air quality. B. Section 01 8113, SUSTAINABLE DESIGN REQUIREMENTS FOR LEED BUILDINGS C. Section 01 8113.13, VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUND (VOC) LIMITS FOR ADHESIVES, SEALANTS, PAINTS AND COATINGS. D. Division 9 (of the Specifications): Finishes.
1.4 DEFINITIONS:
A Refer to Article 2 of the Contract for definition of terms, words and expressions used in the General Conditions not otherwise defined herein.
B. Design Consultant: "Design Consultant" shall mean the entity responsible for providing design services for the Project, including without limitation, preparing the construction documents (drawings and specifications) and providing services in connection with such documents during construction. The entity serving as the "Design Consultant" may be a corporation, firm, partnership, joint venture, individual or combination thereof. Such entity may be either an employee(s) of the City or an entity eng~ged by the City to provide such services. C. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's): Chemical compounds common in and emitted by many building products, including solvents in paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants, wood preservatives, composite wood binder, and foam insulations. Not all VOC's are harmful, but many of those contained within building products contribute to the formation of smog and may irritate building occupants by their smell and/or health impact.
